Easter in the Edge of Norway

  • Spring

Last updated 2025-04-05

Experience an unforgettable Easter in the Stavanger region! Mountain activities, city life, culture, shopping and gastronomy await. Create memories and explore the mountains, fjords, coast, city and countryside.

Enjoy Easter and find your place in the sun

The typical Norwegian term "å sitte i solveggen" translates to something resembling "sitting in the sunny nook" to soak up the first warm rays of spring. In Norway, it often brings back fond memories of good times. The sunny nook can be anywhere; the only criterion is that the sun peeks out when you sit there. Welcome to the Edge of Norway - will you find your place to bask in the sun here at Easter? Here are some suggestions.

In the sun with your partner

If you're travelling with your partner, don't miss out on great city experiences. The first outdoor pint of the year in Stavanger, for example, can be had at Fisketorget just at the waterfront. In Stavanger, you can also enjoy the sunshine in the popular and lively Fargegaten. There are also several cosy cafés and pubs where you can enjoy the sunshine, a drink and each other.

Art, shopping and sauna in the cities

For you and your sweetheart, an Easter city break can be wonderful in our region. Enjoy art at the Stavanger Art Museum, check out the region's impressive street art in Stavanger, Sandnes and Bryne, spend your Easter budget on shopping, stroll through Old Stavanger, go on an art and sculpture tour in Sandnes or enjoy a sauna visit in Stavanger.

The slow and good life at Sogndalstrand or speed and excitement

Celebrate Easter in Sogndalstrand and stay at Sogndalstrand Kulturhotell. Find concerts and other great things on the programme. Are you looking for some speed and excitement? Motorcenter Norway is for you.

Easter with the family

If you're travelling with young and old alike, perhaps you're looking for some quiet time during your holiday? Imagine yourself with a steaming hot coffee in a sunny spot at a rented cabin while you watch your children frolic in the snow next to you. Or are they big enough to hit the slopes themselves? In Sandnes, you can enjoy the outdoors in several places, but how about a break in one of the giant chairs in the centre of Langgata with a well-deserved ice cream? At Gramstad, you'll always find a cosy spot in the fairytale forest in one of the shelters with fairytale names. Fun for the little ones! Find a great Easter activity for the family at Stavanger Trekking Association.

City Easter with the family

There's plenty for the whole family to do in the cities. Visits to museums, cafés, street art discovery tours or simply stocking up on the very best Easter chocolate. At Chili Chocolate in Stavanger or Chili Chocolate Sandnes, you'll always find something for the sweet tooth. Chili Chocolate also offers chocolate courses. Here, you can learn more about chocolate and become a true chocolate connoisseur! You'll get to make your own chocolate, which, of course, you get to eat at the end.

Most museums in the region are open at Easter except for Good Friday. Just outside Sandnes you can visit Skogsprett, a climbing and jumping park, a popular park with the kids. Playground Stavanger is also a fun, indoor climbing park where you can challenge both young and old. Tryggvi Islandshestgård is another family favourite, just outside Sandnes. Just outside Stavanger, Sørmarka Arena offers climbing for the whole family. In the evening, why not enjoy a night out at the cinema?

Family Easter in a lunar landscape

The whole family can go to the ‘moon’ this Easter! With a little goodwill, of course. How so, you say? Because the type of rock you walk on in Magma Geopark is the same as the one you find on the moon. Perhaps it's a bit more fun to take the whole family on a trip when the destination is the rather funny-shaped mountain formation Trollpikken. Both city life and nature can be experienced in the Magma UNESCO Global Geopark. At Bakkaåno Camping & Gjestegard, the whole family can play detective!

Easter in the snow

There are several places in the Stavanger region where you can enjoy the last remnants of snow (subject to weather conditions) before spring arrives in full force in the high mountains. Sirdal, for example, is just a couple of hours' drive from Stavanger. Brekko or Stavtjørn are other options. In Sirdal, you can try dog sledding, or how about spending a night in an ecolodge? You, the stars and someone you love? Or try a teepee cabin with polar dogs as neighbours.

Here you'll find all the fjord cruises or other types of boat trips that can take you on a fjord tour. If you want to experience the fjord landscape from the mountainside, why not take a hike or a guided mountain tour? If you go on your own, you can take an express bus to the starting point of the Preikestolen from April. Another great way to enjoy the fjord is to go canoeing.
